John Banks has been found guilty of knowingly filing a false electoral return after his failed Auckland mayoral campaign in 2010.
The Act MP has been on trial in the High Court in Auckland over two $25,000 cheques from Kim Dotcom and another cheque from SkyCity, which the Crown alleged Banks falsely recorded as anonymous.
Mr Banks went on trial following a private prosecution brought by retired Wellington accountant Graham McCready. Police had previously investigated but decided in 2012...

Barrister volunteers to take on John Banks prosecution
A barrister has volunteered to appear on behalf of private prosecutor Graham McCready in a judicial review of John Banks' committal for trial.
Auckland barrister Michael Lloyd has offered to represent Mr McCready at no cost, should Crown Law decide not to take over the prosecution. Mr McCready had earlier put out a public request for donations to help cover the cost of engaging a lawyer for the review.
